A live Zoom class or an on-campus class is more than its timetable: each week can carry assignments, quizzes and resources. For a live Zoom class you add them inside the week, on the class's Curriculum & batches tab. For an on-campus class you add them on the On-campus class work page. Students find them in the classroom, hand their work in there, and you mark it in the same place you added it.
Adding an item to a live Zoom class
Step 1: Open the class and its Curriculum & batches tab
Menu → Teaching → Live Zoom classes, then the class.
Sign in to open this screenStep 2: Go to the week
Choose the batch along the top; its weeks are listed below Batch settings.
Step 3: Under Add, choose Assignment, Quiz or Resource
The form opens with that week already chosen.
Step 4: Choose the Batch
Every batch of this class (the default), or one batch only.
Step 5: Fill in the title and the rest
See the table below for each kind.
Step 6: Choose Visible to students
Yes, published or Not yet (draft).
Step 7: Choose the Add button at the bottom of the form
It reads Add assignment, Add quiz or Add material (a resource). The item is saved at once. You do not need Save curriculum, and nothing goes to NSDP for review.
- The item appears in its week, under the Zoom classes, with Every batch or This batch only, the due date, and a Draft tag while students cannot see it.
- Because an item belongs to the class, a new batch already has every item that is set for every batch. Nothing needs copying.
- Edit changes an item; the bin icon removes it.
- A week that has an assignment, quiz or resource cannot be removed from the curriculum.
The On-campus class work page
The separate page is in the menu only for instructors linked to a campus, under Student work → On-campus class work. On-campus classes have no Curriculum tab, so their class work is added here.
Step 1: Open On-campus class work and choose the Class
Your on-campus classes are listed under On-campus classes.
Sign in to open this screenStep 2: Choose what to add
Assignment, Project, Quiz or Material.
Step 3: Choose the Week and the Batch, fill in the form and choose Add
The form is the same as for a live Zoom class.
- A Project is an assignment shown as "Project". A Material is what the Curriculum tab calls a Resource.
- The Class list on this page also has your Live Zoom classes. What you add to one there is the same class work you see in its Curriculum tab.
- The page also has the recordings and make-up classes described further down.
| Kind | What you set | What the student does |
|---|---|---|
| Assignment | Instructions, an optional due date, total and pass marks, files for students (a brief, a template), and whether they hand in a written answer, files or both (up to 10 files). | Hands in text and files. Can change the answer until you mark it. |
| Project (On-campus class work page) | The same as an assignment; it is shown as "Project". | The same. |
| Quiz | Questions with 2 to 8 answer options each and one correct answer, marks per question, and the pass mark as a percentage. | Takes it as often as needed. It is marked at once and the best score is kept. |
| Resource (called Material on the On-campus class work page) | Notes, files and a link. | Reads or downloads it. Nothing to hand in. |
Marking what students hand in
Step 1: Choose "N handed in" on the item
The button is on the item, in its week of the Curriculum tab or on the On-campus class work page. An amber count shows how many still wait for marks.
Step 2: Read the answer and open the files
Late work is tagged Late.
Step 3: Enter the Marks and the Feedback for the student
Marks cannot be more than the item's total marks. Leave the marks empty to mark it complete without a score.
Step 4: Choose Save marks
The student sees the marks and your feedback in the classroom. Marked work is closed to the student.
- Return to the student sends the work back with your feedback. The student improves it and hands it in again; returned work does not count as done.
- Quizzes are marked automatically. Their list shows each student's best score, whether they passed and how many attempts they made.
Class work and the batch certificate
Each assignment and quiz has a tick box, Needed for the certificate (on by default). When a batch has such items, a student is eligible for the batch certificate only when they have enough attendance and have done all of them: an assignment handed in (and not returned), a quiz passed. Resources (materials) never count. With no such items, the certificate depends on attendance alone, as before.
Where students see it
- In the classroom, under Assignments & quizzes and Materials, week by week.
- In the curriculum on the class's page, listed with each week's classes.
- In their to-do list: the dashboard's To do, the Assignments & quizzes page and their notifications, with the due date.
- On their certificate cards: "N of M assignments and quizzes done".
Recordings and make-up classes
A live Zoom class is recorded automatically and the recording is attached to the class by itself, so you normally add nothing. The On-campus class work page (/teacher/class-work) still lists, under the items, every class meeting of the batch you choose. There you can add a recording by hand and, when a class could not be held as planned, schedule a make-up class.
| Button | What you enter | What students get |
|---|---|---|
| Add recording | Upload the video, or paste a link to it, and an optional title. | Watch recording on that class in the classroom. An uploaded video plays there; a Zoom, YouTube or Google Drive link opens on that site. |
| Make-up class | Why the class is being made up (5 to 500 characters, shown to students), the date and time, the length in minutes, the Zoom (or other meeting) link, and an optional note. | A Make-up class online card on that class with the reason and the time. Join the make-up class turns on 15 minutes before the start, until 30 minutes after the end. |
- Both work for on-campus classes. This is the way to give an on-campus class a recording or an online session: its own timetable entry never carries links.
- For a live Zoom class, a recording you add by hand is kept: the automatic Zoom recording never replaces it.
- Saving again replaces what was there. Remove takes it away.
- Mark attendance for a made-up class as you do for any class.
- The link of a make-up class is one you create in Zoom yourself; unlike the classes of the curriculum, it is not created for you.
Answering class discussions
Each batch also has its own discussion in the classroom. Students → Course discussions → Live & campus classes (/teacher/global-comments?view=classes) lists the questions of the class you choose, with a count of the ones still waiting for an answer.
- Write under a question and choose Answer. The whole batch sees it, marked Instructor.
- A thread is Waiting for an answer while its last post is a student's. Tick Only waiting to see just those.
- Post to a batch starts a discussion yourself: choose the batch, write, and choose Post.
- The bin icon removes any post; removing a question removes its replies.
- Private questions come to your Student messages instead.

FAQ
Does adding class work send my class back for review?
No. Class work is kept separately from the class's details, batches and Zoom classes and is saved straight away.
Do I need Save curriculum after adding an assignment?
No. Save curriculum is for batches, weeks and Zoom classes. Assignments, quizzes and resources are saved the moment you choose Add or Save changes.
Can I add work for a recorded course here?
No. A recorded course has assignment and quiz lessons in its own curriculum; mark those under Assignment marking.
A student handed in after the due date. Is it accepted?
Yes, it is accepted and tagged Late.
Can a student hand in again after I marked it?
Only if you choose Return to the student.
